Originally based in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn/Staten Island Athletic Basketball League has been in operation for more than 30 years. The league plays at a medium-sized indoor gym twice a week every week, 12 months of the year, for three hours at a time. Most players participate in as many as eight games a session, where basketball fundamentals like boxing out, picks, and the give and go are the norm. With an average player age of 45, the league has remained enjoyable and competitive while becoming something of an institution. There is a fee to join, and new participants are always welcome.
